This time, the Black Prince, the son of Edward III, finds himself pushed back by a gigantic French army after riding through Aquitaine. The Pope’s prelates try to negotiate a peace treaty between both forces, but the French King, confident in victory, refuses any compromises. The Black Prince uses this time to his advantage, hiding troops and reinforcing their positions with stakes. Just like in Crécy, though with more men, the French prepare their relentless assault through a narrow path towards well-defended forces.

The French Marshalls cannot agree how to start their attack, and end up charging without their king’s approval. Their frontline is instantly destroyed by the Welsh bowmen, but the rest of the troops still charging, are getting slaughtered one after the other.

The French army panics, starting to lose all cohesion. The French King, in his last stand, holds on as best he can: that’s when the Captal de Buch flanks the French army with his Gascon army, heading straight for Jean II the Good.
